The Challenge
Asia Pacific is the fastest-growing region in the world.

This economic boom has lifted many out of poverty, but it has also caused significant environmental degradation, with negative effects on human well-being. Our challenge is to maintain and build on the growth of the past two decades, but to do so in a more sustainable way.

The UN Environment Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific is located in Bangkok. We have a national office in Beijing and a sub-regional office in Samoa, and we are present in other countries through national projects including of the UN-REDD Programme and the Poverty and Environment Initiative. The Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific also hosts the secretariats of the following organizations:
